Bringing a pet home comes with responsibilities. But what some people often forget is that one is responsible for a living being rather than a thing. Also, differently from any other type of work, having a dependent requires much more patience, caring, and love. Unfortunately, domestic animals every day become homeless and from people’s homes, they are ‘released’ into the wild. Let’s take a look at these two beautiful Australian Cattle dogs who, in one summer day, found themselves panting while digging a hole in the ground for shelter. And as that old saying goes ‘Everything’s bigger in Texas’, the temperature there reaches its highest numbers.
The two boys were found alone in a dog park. As people were coming in and out, it became obvious that there was no one they belonged to. After many phone calls, social media ‘lost and found’ posts, an animal control officer showed up. The puppy, who wagged his tail, was scanned for microchip and nothing was detected; the older one, whose tail and ears were down, was not even caught. The officer then took a picture of both dogs (in a case the owner contacts the shelter searching for dogs), exchanged contact information with a citizen who was willing to take them, and released them to him. Work done. End of the story. You may call it a happy ending, but the evidence that supports this belief may never become available. So everything, including one’s responsibility for a dependent, a living being, will be left to assumptions.
Those three little words—- I love dogs!
S.M.
When a person who supposed to take care of his/her pet(s), put them outside, they become vulnerable, exposed to the world that treats them as property or better said like a toy. A toy is interesting when new, but once one had it for a while, it becomes an excessive thing that will probably end up at a bottom shelf, in a dumpster, or someone else’s hands. The latter option is definitely the best choice. But who guarantees that ‘toy’ will not end up in the wrong hands? Nobody! Ever! A pet one has no emotional connection to, will always be disposable, never taken care of properly, never loved.
