Social distancing guidelines advise you to stay 6-feet away from other people. And you are so determined to follow them. But guess what? You may be just one of too few people. Wherever you turn, people will find some way to enter your space. In a park, they will bump into you because you walk too slow and they want to run. In a grocery store, they will always find some excuse to get into your face and ask you something (and even try that delicious cherry tomato in your shopping cart). At the traffic light, they roll down their windows just to share some cigarette smoke with you. So slowly but surely you are beginning to realize that only with your dog you can be safe. Go take him for a walk, you both need some fresh air and if people trip over a 6-foot leash, that’s their problem.
Those three little words—- I love dogs!

Every time you call your dog, he is available-
You finally realized that family and friends will not always be there when you need them. Let’s face it, we all get sick from time to time and we all feel blue, especially in times of uncertainty (e.g., coping with COVID-19). The bad news is when you need help or just someone to listen to you, people can find a million excuses to be out of reach, leaving you with two options– ‘leave a message after the beep’ or just hang up. The good news is Sparky, Max, Trixie, Lexi, or whatever you call your furry friend, is always there sitting next to you. And believe it or not—dogs’ ears hear you before you even speak; dogs’ paws have more of ‘human touch’ than you think.
Your dog trusts you-
People will always (directly or indirectly) tell you what to do. Who knows why they do that. They may think they are smarter or they have authority, or maybe they are just speaking from their own experience and believe what worked for them will work for you too. There is one catch here—One size doesn’t fit all. But your dog trusts in your abilities and decisions. He believes whatever you do in life, you do it well. He also believes that whenever you are done with your work, you will let him take care of his business. Finally, he believes that there is nothing the two of you can’t achieve together. You are teammates who instead of competing with one another, balance each other out.
You were in some really, really bad relationship(s)-
If you are one of those people who at one point in your life started a relationship with ‘happily ever after’ but ended it with ‘lucky to be alive’, then there is a very high probability you will find it hard to trust people. Some people keep making promises and breaking them. Some people will always talk about one thing but do another. Those people, fortunately, make you choose a dog rather than another person like them. Dogs simply let you be yourself, and you don’t have to be perfect to be loved by them.
